Cremation is the process of reducing the body of a pet or human by exposing it to intense heat. Through high heat and evaporation the body is reduced to mineral form. Although common called "Ashes," the proper term for this is "Cremains."
Cremation is a very common method used for pets. The process is available through Humane Societies, Vet Clinics and Pet Cemeteries.
Pets can be viewed prior to the cremation and placed in combustible coffins if desired. Most Pet cemeteries that handle Cremation, will also perform services if requested.
Pets that are cremated are identified by tags and a certificate can be issued verifying that a certain pet was cremated at a given place on a particular date.
Commonly, there are two types of Cremation:
Communal Cremation is a cremation of several pets at one time. The Cremains from this process will be mixed from all the pets in the group. Often the Cremains of all the pets are spread or "scattered" as one, in a nice place. Communal Cremation is the least expensive method.
Private Cremation involves the Cremation of one pet at a time. The Cremains are not mixed with any other pet. The cost is higher for this service.
